The memories

Memories, like fireflies.
So many years, so many days, so many thoughts, so much time.
Images connects together.
Pieces by pieces, people with people.
People from all over the place comes together and meets with each other.
We all have our own intention, taking HBP courses.
For me, I want to meet with new friends, learning with them. In the process, I would learned how to connect my thoughts with my friends.
This is a small step of mine in pursuing my ambition as an architect, where I need to connect my ideas with my client's ideas, and transfering them into the paper.
By so many fun experience in RUS 104, for me, the most memorable memory is the performance night.
This is the most interesting pieces of my life in RUS 104 thus far.
This is the last gathering of friends of all the seven courses gathers together and delivers a meaningful night.
We gave our commitment in the preparation of it, nothing is more pleasing than knowing that our efforts did a fruitful success.
From next semester on, our group will be smaller, by dividing to non-design studio and also design studio.
And for 2nd year, we will go to our own respective major.
We are closer to our dream.

Project 6

For Project 6, we are required to design an amphitheater stage.

This project can be considered as our final project, as the weightage of the marks of this project is the highest.

In this project, we had different studiomaster and with different group.

A group of 16 is formed, consist of members from different major.

First of all, we are required to come up with the design of the stage, and we need to support it with a design concept.

We had several group crit session with our studiomaster, Ar Haris, for the design crit.

During the crit session, we learned the way the client would ask us when we are showing our ideas to them.

For example, the reason we designed it like that, the shape that we choose, the materials that choose and so on.

I learned that, we must consider the construction method when we are designing. Because, it is important that, the stage model must be able to build by us, and that it represents how to actual model would be build.

These 2 is our initial design, and slowly develop,

Finally our final design come out:

This is the Conceptual sketches of our stage design.

Our Design Concept is Turtle. Turtle symbolise earth, protection and evolution. The of turtle is slow pace, relaxing.
Our stage design is to be comfortable to our end users, at the same time able to give a sense of secure to them.

Our presentation board:

Project 4

For this project, we are required to design a Chair.

There is a specific site for the chair.

The site is beside The Drum.

The environment of the site is shown below:

For the chair design of our group:

The concept we imply is, Box in Box. Which means, there is a small box wthin our chair.
The box is then multifunctional.
We can use it as both table and also chair.

Our design is simple, as we want to gives a peaceful and harmony feeling to the end users and also to preserve the nature of the site.

After this, we are required to draw Plans and elevation for our chair, and also 1 perspective drawing for it.

Project 5

For this project, we are required to do site analysis on a residential area that we chose, from the 6 choices we have.

For my project, I did Sunway Merica.

This residential overall is good, but there are some amendment tshat could make it a better place.

There are many photos that I took, that I want to include them as sketches.

This is the final product of my work:

Project 3

For project 3, we are required to do sculpture.
We are required to do free form structure, which is not solid.
What it meant to be 'not solid'' is that it does not take the form of the real object we chose from.
For example, if we chose Bird as our sculpture inspiration, we do not do the sculpture of it, but we are to construct a sculpture with the gist of the bird, for example, we take the motion of the bird, and do sculpture about it.

For my sculpture, I tried to do something that is think out of the box.
So, I did a shadow sculpture.
Before this project are assigned, we had a lecture session about ''creating something from nothingness'' and that ''nothingness are something''.
For my sculpture, I applied this concept to it.

Shadow which are ''nothing'' are formed when lights are obstructed from the path it travels, hence cast a shadow of darkness behind the obstacle.

Using this concept, I created a scenery of a harmonious village, villagers and also the port and sampan.

I created nothing out of something, and that ''nothing'' are able to tell a story.

This is the completed product of mine.
When there is no light, it's an abstract form, with no definite form.

After light is applied, and shadow is cast, the scenery is coming out. Showing the harmonious village scene.

Project 2

Hey.. It's been a long time since I updated my blog.

So basically, for our project 2, we are required to capture photos for the object we chose for our sketches and painting.

For man made structure, we are required to paint it, while for natural structure, we are require to do pencil sketching.

Man made structure are built environment, constructed by human;
while natural structure are objects created from nature, such as trees, sea shells or even animals.

This is the natural structure that I chose.
The reason I chose it, first of all is the magnificent size of it, which shows the strength and firmness of nature. It depicts the nature's power.
Another reason, is that it reminds me of Centre Georges Pompidou.
The vines that surrounding the tree, is exposed. It's like the Centre Georges Pompidou, where the services structure are exposed, to show the uniqueness of it.

This is the Man Made structure that I chose.
The reason I chose this is because, from this angle of perspective, it's as if the staircase is leading towards the sky.
The story I want to tell is that, since ancient time, human had constructed structures and buildings to shorten the gap towards the sky, and they think that this shows their loyalty towards the God, that they want to be nearer to them.

From this project, I learned that, structure exists both artificially(man made) and also naturally. There are many structures that are inspired from the nature. For example, how natural structure follows the golden mean proportion, and human constructs building with the application of the golden mean in their design.

This is the completed work for my natural structure.

And this is for my Man-made Structure

Have a look at our studio main website!

ProJect 1. Me, Myself & 1

Have taken my Photo and drew by refering to it. Did it look like me? xD

Project 1B: Logo Design.

Design 1:

Design 2:

At first, i'm using design 1, but after i showed it to my lecturer, i changed my mind.
A good logo is what that represents you, your personality, and your characteristic, and is not to put your name in it. So, I changed to this Design 2 to be submitted.

The 1st design, there are actually my name in it. James TYJ. And if u look from right to left, you could find the word "Sexy" which i want to say that, architect is one of the most sexy career, and it's true, try google "the most sexy career" and you will know haha.

Whereas the 2nd design, I use it to represents my attitude towards archietcture. Notice the black dot, it's actually to be coloured to red, and represents the red sun. Sun gives energy, and it brings positive emotion to people. I'm using it to represents that, my architecture is focusing on the emotion of the people, and also their space. "Their space" is represented by the space i left white. The others is coloured in black. Black is a colour that could show elegancy, and mysterious. It's representing the building i designed, to be elegant, and it's shape represents that, my archietcture is dynamic, but yet it is standing firmly, and protecting the white space ( people)
.

So, basically this is what i did for my project 2. Thanks for reading!.

1st day of lecture session: The RUS104-Studio

This is the first lecture session we had with our lecturer. During the morning, after we took a seat and when the lectures starts, our first studio begins =).

Our lecturer gave us a briefing on our courses, on the importance of the role of our career in ensuring the structure constructed did not collapsed and endanger the residence life. From this short briefing, i felt a sense of responsibility of an Architect. Our job is not only providing a comfort living place, but also a safe shelter which brings no worries to our resident. This is a matter that should not be overlook.

After that, we had been divided to our own groups with our own lecturer that guide us for our studio course throughout the semester. My group is the third group, with Dr. Mohd. Hafizal Mohd Isa as our lecturer. But then, the challenges comes.

We are required to buy our drawing tools, sketchbook and other necessary things for our studio lecture and projects before our studio lecture starts. Unfortunately, it is raining during the time. Together with other HBP friends, we fought with the strong wind and rains to reach the shop which is located at Sungai Dua. It is a special experience I would say, as we made our first step in challenging our limits.

And here comes our studio! The first lesson, we are given coursework of self portrait, designing a logo to show our unique characteristic and also a visual blog, which is why I'm here, writing this =)
Then, we are given a lesson on technical writing. We are introduced the technical letters which is very important as, if we did not write it clearly, the engineers might misunderstood the detailing, and might endanger the residence. The structure might collapse with a small mistakes!
"I'M AN ARCHITECT AND MY HANDWRITING SUCKS!"
This is what we required to do throughout the lesson, practicing to write this sentence with technical letters. With the help of lecturer and constant practice, I think I would be able to write it more 'professionally" haha.

So.. our first lesson ends here. =) Thanks for reading xD
